Berkshire Bird Paradise Sanctuary and Botanical Gardens
A new book about Peter Dubacher and the Bird Paradise

Feathers of Hope
I found Paradise in the mid-1990’s by accident, not too far form Troy, New York.
I was at Grafton Lake with a friend I’ll call Amanda, and we decided to explore a little further up the road. Looking specifically for the Peace Pagoda, which she’d heard was a good place to stop and have a picnic supper. On the way we passed a sign that said “Berkshire Bird Paradise.” I looked at Amanda and asked, “You up for Paradise?” “Sure,” she said, “Why not?”
If the road to Hell is paved with good intentions, apparently the road to Paradise is not paved at all. It’s dirt all the way, and bumpy and twisty, too. We kept going on faith alone until we came to a driveway and a weatherworn sign with an eagle on it. “Berkshire Bird Paradise,” it said. This, we assumed was it.
